Dulwich wraps around the northern side of Gipsy Hill, and parts of West Dulwich are only a couple of minutes from our base. Dulwich Village is typically a 5 to 10 minute drive, and East Dulwich around 10 to 15 minutes. It is a leafy, quiet area with large parks, woods and historic buildings, but the roads can be surprisingly busy at school times.

Dulwich Village
The village itself has a historic high street with independent shops and cafés, and is home to Dulwich Picture Gallery, the oldest public art gallery in England, which opened in 1817. Dulwich Park, just across the road, has a lake, a café and a popular Saturday morning parkrun. We drop off and collect from the gallery and the park gates.
West Dulwich
West Dulwich is the closest part of Dulwich to Gipsy Hill, around Thurlow Park Road and Croxted Road. West Dulwich station has Southeastern trains to Victoria. It is often quicker to take a car from here to one of the big stations when you are carrying luggage.
East Dulwich
Lordship Lane is the main street in East Dulwich, lined with restaurants, delis and shops. It gets busy in the evenings and at weekends, and parking is limited, so many people prefer to be dropped off and picked up. East Dulwich station has Southern trains to London Bridge.
Roads and routes in Dulwich
Dulwich has a few features that local drivers know well. College Road, running south from the village towards Sydenham Hill, has a toll gate, the last one still in use in London. Our drivers will use the route that makes most sense for your journey and will let you know if it involves the toll road. The South Circular also runs through the area along Dulwich Common, which is a useful route west towards Heathrow and east towards Catford.
